The impact of housing temperature on the well-being of tropical parrots
/DESCRIPTION
Tropical parrots have adapted over an extended period ofevolution to thrive in their natural environment. But what happens when weplace these birds in an environment that differs from their original habitat? Can these animals adapt, and does this have consequences for their well-being?

This research, launched by the Scientific Authority CITES Netherlands, Wildlife’s Welfare examines how housing temperature affects the welfare of tropical parrots. The defined concept of welfare provides a basis for creating measurable indicators, which are examined in an experimental setup. These indicators are evaluated through markers like corticosterone levels in faeces, behaviour analysis, diet monitoring, and body condition assessments (BCS). The research investigates the relationship between these results, the ambient temperature, and the parrots' adaptability. Additionally, ethical considerations are integrated by surveying parrot keepers and reviewing current standards.
